FAQs
Test and Tag frequently asked questions
We have prepared our FAQ below to address the most commonly asked questions around test and tagging of electrical cables and appliances.
Test and Tag is a process where each electrical equipment is checked to ensure it is safe to use, complying with AS/NZS 3760, which requires regular inspection and testing of electrical equipment. In NSW, this is compulsory for some commercial facilities.
Test and Tag is crucial for ensuring the safety of users and preventing potential hazards such as electrical faults, fire risks, or inefficient operation. Regular testing helps identify and fix issues before they become serious.
The frequency of testing depends on the environment and usage:
- Construction, Building and Demolition: Every 3 months
- Production, Factories and Warehouses: Every 6 months
- Offices, Laboratories, Health Care and Education Facilities: Every 12 months
- Secure Environments: Every 5 years
The process includes:
- Visual Inspection: Checking for defects like overheating, frayed cords, or damage.
- Electrical Testing: Using specialised equipment to detect faults.
- Record Keeping: Providing a report containing test outcomes.
- Tagging: Attaching tags indicating pass or fail status and next test date.
